General Tips
Standalone App

Yellow Bucket is a progressive web app. What that means is you can optionally download the website and it will display on your mobile device's home screen and behave as if it was a native app. This is definitely recommended! To do this make the relevant selection from your browser's options menu when on the Yellow Bucket site.

Offline Use

This app has been designed to work offline, albeit with limited functionality. You can create and record matches whilst offline, however you are not able to view match reports or reload saved matches. Matches recorded whilst offline will be uploaded to the internet next time you use the app with a working internet connection.

If you intend to use the app somewhere with a patchy internet connection it is recommended that you use the app in standalone mode (see above) and have visited both the setup and match pages once to ensure files have been cached. Also it is worth checking that the app works when your device is in an offline state before you leave for the match.

Familiarising

To ensure you can keep up with the action when recording your first match, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the interface beforehand.

Setting Up Time

Setting up a match can take a bit of time, especially if it is your first time recording a match for a particular team (as you will have to enter every player name). Try to get a list of players, numbers and divisions as soon as possible before the match starts so that you're ready to go. You can always set the match up and then select 'Save & exit' from the match screen. Then you can load the pre-prepared match right before throw-off.

Record Both Teams?

You will need to decide if you want to record player information for both teams, neither team, or just one. Choosing not to record player information for both teams will make your life easier as the recorder, but of course will mean the match report is less informative.

Help Recording

Whilst normally not necessary, recording matches will be easier if you have a 'caller' who tells you what is happening. That way you can keep your eyes fixed on the screen. You may especially want to consider this if you're recording player information for both teams, you expect it to be a fast paced game and/or you're unfamiliar with the players.

Controlling Access to a Report

You can control who has access to a match report by limiting who has access to the URL. All match reports are technically open access, however the URLs are not guessable. All match reports contain a share button so you can easily send the match report to others. Of course these people will then be free to share the link onwards. If you don't untick the relevant box on the match setup screen your match report will also appear on the Yellow Bucket home screen for a short time.

Favouriting a Match

You can favourite matches recorded by others by pressing the star on the top of the match report screen. This will make it appear in your list of reports on your user page.

Setting Up a Match
Subs

If the match rules limit how many substiutions any one team can make, you can enter this number on the match set-up screen. This will serve as a reminder on the subs screen of how many subs you have left. Note that the app doesn't prevent you making more than this number: it is a reminder only.

Court Dimensions

Enter the length and width of the court that the match is to be played on to allow shot distances to be calculated correctly. Be warned that if you enter values that are not proportional to the 40m x 20m standard then the court on the match screen may look oddly stretched. This is not a problem, you should just account for this stretching when you place the shots. If you do not know the exact length and width then do not worry and take a guess; but the more accurate you are, the more accurate the stats will be.

Player Info

Tick 'Record player statistics...' on a team set-up page and you will be asked to enter the names and numbers of the players in that team. When you are recording the match player options will now appear that allow you to attribute shots and rebounds to a particular player.

Saved Players

If you have previously recorded a match for a particular team, then ticking 'Record player statistics...' will also give you an option to auto-fill the players using the Saved Players dropdown. Click '1', '2' or 'S' to add the player to the respecitve division or subs bench. To change your mind, just press it again. When you submit a team form, any new players entered will be saved for next time.

Recording a Match
The Clock

The match clock will count down how long is left in the current period. Use the 'Play', 'Pause' and 'Skip 10s' buttons to control it. Keeping the clock in sync with the referee's watch will help to ensure any time-based statistics are as accurate as possible.

Adding shots

When a shot is taken in the match, press/click the court in the location of the shot. Then fill in the pop-ups to attribute shots/rebounds (if you're recording player info), and mark the outcome of the shot.

Free Passes

Press the Free Pass button to add one. If the free pass does not result in a shot then you do not need to do anything else. If a shot is taken, then add it as normal, but ensure you tick the relevant box that will have appeared to link the shot to the free pass.

Adding Subs

Press 'Subs' in the match screen options (found in the top right) to go to the subs screen. From here you can select two players of the same sex to swap. Not only can you make subs, but you can also directly swap players between the two divisions. Whilst not legal in a game of korfball, this is useful if you've made a mistake or want to adjust the divisions before a match has started.

Adding Players

From the sub screen, press the 'New player' button to add a new player to a team. This is handy if a player was missed off when you originally set-up the match.

Undoing

If you've made a mistake you can delete the most recent event in the match by pressing the delete icon next to the event in the match ticker.

Possession Indicator & Quick Turnovers

A circle appears next to the name of the team that is currently in possession. Press the name of the team to quickly change which team has possession. Doing so will not add a new turnover event to the match statistics. In theory there shouldn't be a need to do this, however it is useful if the app's state has got out of sync with the match and you wish to quickly get back in sync.

Switching Attack/Defence

Which division is attacking/defending will update automatically throughout the match, however if you need to change it manually press 'Switch attack/defence' from the match screen options. This can also be done when you add a shot.

Changing Attacking Directions

If you wish to change which team is shown to be attacking to the left/right, you can do so by pressing 'Change attacking directions' from the match screen options.

Saving Matches

Press 'Save & exit' to save a match's progress and be taken to your user page. Leaving the match screen in other ways could result in a loss of data. Saved matches will show on your user page, from which you can rejoin them.

Toggling Fullscreen

Use the fullscreen button in the match screen options to enter/exit fullscreen.

Viewing Match Report

You can view the match report mid-game by selecting 'View report' in the match screen options. If you like you can share this link with others to allow them to view the statistics as you're recoding. Note however that the report will only update when you press 'View report' or 'Save & exit'.

Leaving Comments

Before you complete a match you have the option to leave comments that will display in the match report. If you know parts of your recording were inaccurate it may be a good idea to note that in the comment box, so that people viewing the report are aware.
